Isolation and loneliness have recently been reported, by the Surgeon General,\u00a0 as one of the most serious conditions facing American\u2019s mental health. Unfortunately it is a vicious cycle- the more isolated one becomes the more lonely one feels. Having safe non threatening situations helps to break the cycle. Having a dog and taking it to a dog park to play opens up opportunities for conversation and interaction with other dog owners. Joining or volunteering at organizations that help others also creates community. If you know someone that seems to be withdrawing reach out to them – a walk, go for a coffee try to connect. If the isolation has become too pronounced intervention might be in order. Contemporary Care Centers is a full service psychiatric practice.
